A trial run of houseboats are starting in Pekhon loch in Pekhon Township, Shan State (South).

The two cruise vessels named “MVLPH Lity” with three bedrooms for six passengers and “MVLPH Cherry” with six bedrooms for 15 passengers will be plied in the loch.

“Belief, living styles and cultural customs of ethnic people such as Shan, Pa’O, Kayan and Intha and scenic views which can be seen from the vessel can be observed” said boatbuilder Ko Aung Ye Kyaw.

The houseboats were constructed by White Swan Boating Co.Ltd and the vessel which carries six passengers is 40 ft in length and 15 ft in width. As well a vessel for 15 passengers is 40 ft in length and 22 ft in width.

January was set as a trial period and local residents can ride the cruise vessel with K 5,000 per person during this period. It will last about three hours for a route_ two hours for driving and one hour for visiting on the island.

Later, day trips and whole night trips will be plied and Lake Cruise of Laek Pekhon Houseboats is the first route in Myamar.
