A ceremony to honour the founder of the International Buddhist Education Center (IBEC) in Sagaing City and the Stockholm World Peace Prize 2018 winner U Sobita took place in Kyunhla Township, Sagaing Region this morning.

The event was held in conjunction with opening of Abhidhamma course, computer training course and English language proficiency course. The Sayadaw has been awarded honorary doctorate by the United Nations-established prestigious university in India recently. The opening of courses commenced by reciting “Namo Tassa” three times by congregation who received the “Five Precepts” from members of the Sangha.

Afterwards, an official from the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture explained matters relating to the welcoming ceremony and Dr. Sobita extended greetings. Sitagu Buddhist Academy (Kyunhla) will accept 60 monks and 25 laypersons totaling 85 in the academic year 2019-2020, according to the Sitagu information section.—Myo Win Nyo
