Illegal timbers, food items, consumer goods, auto spare parts seized

UNDER the supervision of the Anti-Illegal Trade Steering Committee, efforts are being made to take action against illegal trades.

 

On 20 and 21 March, a combined team led by the Kachin State Department of Forest seized 2.940 tonnes of illegal teak (estimated value of K347,100) during an inspection in Shwegu forest reserve in Shwegu Township, Bhamo District, Kachin State.

 

On 21 March, illegal food items and consumer goods carried on two trucks were confiscated under the Customs Law at the Mayanchaung Permanent Checkpoint in Mon State. On 22 March, a combined team led by the Department of Forest in Ayeyawady Region conducted inspections in Mawlamyinekyun Township, Pathein Township and Ngaputaw Township and seized 7.3195 tonnes of illegal timbers (estimated value of K1,268,656) under the Forest Law.

 

In addition, detergent powder bags (estimated value of K2,400,000) which were more than the declaration in the Import Declaration were seized at Kawkareik (Tadakyoe) Combined Checkpoint and action is taken under the Customs Law.

 

Moreover, water pump units (estimated value of K5,000,000) which were more than the declaration in the Import Declaration were seized at the Myanmar Industrial Port Container Inspection Station and action is taken under the Customs Law.

 

Similarly, a customs team on-duty at the Hteetan Port Container Inspection Station conducted an inspection under the management of the Customs Department and seized automobile spare parts and toilet accessories (estimated value of K18,770,000) under the Customs Law.

 

Yesterday, 34.3416 tonnes of illegal timber (estimated value of K3,488,476) were confiscated from the forest reserves in Toungoo District, Pyay District and Thayawady District in Bago Region.

 

Therefore, a total of 14 arrests (estimated of value K36,797,612) was made on from 20 to 23 March, according to the Anti-Illegal Trade Steering Committee. — MNA
