Illegal timbers, foodstuffs, consumer goods, industrial materials and vehicles confiscated

The combined team seized a total of 4.908 tonnes of illegal hardwoods, 0.626 tonne of other timbers worth K2,525,722 in Toungoo district on 7 October, 7.682 tonnes of illegal teaks and 1.068 tonnes of illegal other timbers worth K3,856,274 in Bago and Toungoo districts on 8 October and an unregistered Mazda Bongo and an unregistered Nissan Vanette (approximately K4 million) in Bago township on 8 October. The action was taken under the Forest Law and the Export and Import Law.

 

On 8 October, the Customs on-duty teams impounded a Nissan Diesel truck and a Htila truck (estimated value of K65 million), parked at a warehouse and a bus station in Mandalay, carrying eight kinds of goods worth K763.8 million including 31,200 bottles of Justus beer and 16,000 boxes of Esse cigarettes and three unregistered Honda Fit, an unregistered Toyota Crown and an unregistered MG-5 vehicle (approximately K50.5 million) on the outskirt of Namti. The action was taken under the Export and Import Law.

 

As a result, a total of 19 arrests were made on 7 and 8 October, with an estimated value of K889,681,996, as reported by the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee. — MNA/MKKS
