The 100th anniversary of International Labour Organization was jointly organized by the Ministry of Labour, Immigration and Population and the ILO at the Melia Hotel in Yangon yesterday morning. The ILO was first established in 1919, while the world was emerging from four years of 1914 –1918 First World War.

Union Minister U Thein Swe delivered an opening remark at the event, saying that Myanmar organized a contest for article writing in accordance with the motto of ILO centenary ‘Advancing social justice, promoting decent work’.

He also confirmed that Myanmar is preparing for practicing ILO Convention No. 138 on the Minimum Age, and the country signed a joint statement on Future of Work at ASEAN labour ministers conference in Singapore from 29 to 30 April this year.

Then, ILO Deputy Director-General Mr Greg Vines, and representatives of employers and labours made remarks on the event, followed by presenting the Centenary documentary video, and ILO Centenary Statement on Future of Work. Group discussions were also held and awards were also given to the winners in article writing contests.
The Union Minister and party also looked around the photo exhibition of ILO Centenary.

In the afternoon, the National Tripartite Dialogue Forum was held with discussions on the Decent Worlk Country Programme (2018-2021), the government’s efforts on eradication of forced labours, designing complaint mechanism and interim dealing process with the complaints.

The second day of forum on 22 October will discuss the ongoing and continuing processes in law reform.
