India recorded 18,815 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, taking the total tally to 43,585,554, showed data released by the federal health ministry on Friday.

 

A total of 379,470 COVID-19 tests were conducted across the country in the past 24 hours, added the ministry.

 

Besides, 38 more deaths due to the pandemic since Thursday morning took the death toll to 525,343.

 

The number of active cases in the South Asian country rose to 122,335 including 2,878 new ones recorded in the past 24 hours.

 

Amid a surge in COVID-19 infections, the number of active cases has been on the rise consistently in India over the past several weeks. Last week active cases surpassed the 100,000-mark in number for the first time in about four months.

 

Meanwhile, the daily positivity rate stood at 4.96 percent and the weekly positivity rate was 4.09 percent, showed official data.

 

So far 42,937,876 COVID-19 patients have been cured and discharged from hospitals in India, including 15,899 new recoveries recorded in the past 24 hours.
