The Ministry of Information held a workshop titled Cyber Wellness for the Youth in Yangon yesterday.
As part of the ASEAN-Japan Media and Information Literacy for the Youth, the workshop aims to spread knowledge about cybercrimes and cyberattacks among students and young people.
Union Minister Dr Pe Myint delivered a keynote speech on the workshop which was held at the meeting hall of Printing and Publishing Department on Theinbyu road.
In his speech, the Union Minister said, “While the international countries are conducting cyber wellness campaigns for the young people, ASEAN member countries are also organizing media and information literacy events.”
He also recognized the young people are using information technology in the various platforms of cyberspace to explore political, economic and social affairs in timely manner.
After the speech, multimedia materials for cyber knowledge created by the Philippines were screened with a projector.
During the workshop session, officials from Ministry of Transport and Communications, UNESCO, Myanmar Police Force, Myanmar Computer Professionals Association and Myanmar ICT for Development Organization made discussions on the topics of relations between internet users and digital culture, media and information literacy among the youth in digital era, cybercrimes, cyber abuse, internet phobia, prevention against online privacy, advantages and risks of social media, internet security and information scrutiny.
The speakers also replied to the questions of attendees at the workshop.
The Philippines proposed the project of the ASEAN-Japan Media and Information Literacy for the Youth to the ASEAN Secretariat in 2017 to promote cyber wellness, and the Committee of Permanent Representatives to ASEAN (CPR) permitted the campaigns which have been holding since 2018 supported by the ASEAN Cultural Fund.
Myanmar is a member country in this project, and Myanma Radio and Television under the Ministry of Information prepared for holding the workshop to develop an ASEAN identity.—MNA (Translated by Aung Khin)
