Japanese badminton star Kento Momota departed from Kuala Lumpur international airport on his way back to Tokyo on Wednesday morning. He sustained injuries in a car crash in Malaysia on Monday.

The world number one men's singles player was injured on Monday after his van crashed into a truck on an expressway from Kuala Lumpur to the airport. He had just clinched the Malaysia Masters title.

 

Momota was hospitalized with cuts to his face and bruises all over his body. He underwent tests which included an MRI, before doctors approved his discharge.

The Nippon Badminton Association says Momota's flight will arrive at Narita airport, near Tokyo, on Wednesday afternoon.

Association Secretary General Kinji Zeniya says the group will have Momota undergo a complete checkup in Japan.
