With the number of passengers increasing during the Thadingyut holidays, compared with other seasons, the Yangon-Dala ferries are serving the transportation needs of passengers.
The Inland Water Transport Department is endeavoring to ensure the safe and convenient transportation for passengers, and the Yangon-Dala ferry has been providing regular service without reducing its rounds to large numbers of passengers during the long Thadingyut holidays.
“The number of passengers are increasing during the Thadingyut festival and the manager and other officials from the department have arranged the smooth and safe transportation for passengers”, said U Thein Myint, Assistant manager of the Inland Water Transport Department (Delta Division).
Currently, the department is serving the Yangon-Dala ferry boat service with three vessels – Cherry 1, 2 and 3 — which were donated by Japan. The Yangon-Dala ferry boats run 48 trips per day, with over 30,000 passengers. The department can earn over K3 million per day, especially during the holidays. As Yangon is the commercial hub of Myanmar, Yangon is packed with daily commuters and is earning revenues through fares collected on the Yangon-Dala ferry service.
