Inter-village rural road near completion in Bhamo Twsp.

Bhamo, 12 May

A group of local authorities from the district level development supervisory committee looked into progress of an inter-village road being built by the Border Areas and National Races Development Department under the Ministry of Border Affairs in Bhamo Township, Kachin State on 10 May.

Construction of the 17 mile and 6 furlongs long rural road began in the fiscal year 2018-2019 and is slated for completion in the current financial year. Once completed, the facility is expected to benefit 10,482 people from 1,694 households residing in 18 villages in the western bank of the Ayeyawady River. The 12 mile and 6 furlong long road section is being built with nearly Ks. 547 million of the Union Budget allotted in the incumbent fiscal year.

“People from 18 villages experienced many difficulties to go to Bhamo because no bridge over the Ayeyawady River is yet to be built in the area. So they rely on water routes. This is the reason why we built the rural road,” said U Soe Naing, Deputy Director from the district development supervisory committee.—Kein Phyu (IPRD)
