A paper-reading session to mark the International Archives Day Symposium was held at National Archives Department in Nay Pyi Taw at 9 am yesterday.

 

Deputy Minister for Finance and Planning U Mg Mg Win gave a key note speech at the event.

 

He said, in his speech, that International Council on Archive was initiated on June 9th 1948. There are now 199 member countries, 1900 archives and 13 regional organization operation under ICA.

 

He also said that the aim of ICA is to promote the management of use of records and archives and preserve the archival heritage of humanity around the world, through sharing the experiences research and ideas of archive expert with international organizations. ICA holds annual conference to effectively manage the archival heritage of the countries and to deal with problem and difficulty faced by archive experts in the era of technology. They also make use of different activities such as Archival Training Programs and workshops.

 

ICA designates June 9th international Archive day and celebrate it on that date annually with activities. It was the second time Myanmar had celebrated it.

 

The aim of annual international celebration is to inform citizen, governmental departments, organization and students of the fact that the archives play a vital role in preserving countries’ records and heritage and to share the experiences and works of archive experts.

 

He concluded the speech calling for making effort to preserve history, culture and record of the country.

 

Then they looked around the items on display at the event.

 

Afterwards, the symposium was held. An international retired person and 2 officials read documents on Archival education. Q and A Section followed.

 

Then, Deputy Minister gave presents to resource persons.

 

Directors-generalsand Deputy Director Generals of Union Departments, members of the Committees of Pyithu Hluttaw, symposiasts and invited guest attended the event. —MNA
