THE first day of the International Conference on Intellectual Property 2025 took place at the Jasmine Naypyitaw Hotel yesterday with the presence of General Mya Tun Oo, who is also Chairman of the Central Committee on Intellectual Property Rights.

Speaking at the event, the General said the conference aims to strengthen Myanmar’s copyright ecosystem, fostering innovation, economic development, and cultural preservation. Moreover, the conference will provide supportive measures to study the good points and weak points of the country’s copyright system, comparing those of other countries, adopt a better system and explore further procedures through local and foreign papers.

In countries around the world where intellectual property systems are well-developed, human resources are vital for economic growth. Therefore, it is important to provide intellectual property awareness programmes to students and young people based on their age groups, to encourage creativity and innovation, and to promote a spirit of invention. It is also essential to connect university research departments with micro, small, and medium, enterprises to help bring innovations to the market.

To further develop the protection of intellectual property, awareness programmes should be carried out sequentially.

Also present at Session 1 of the conference were Union Minister for Commerce U Tun Ohn, who is also the committee vice-chair, deputy ministers, directors-general, local and foreign experts, keynote speakers and paper readers. — MNA/KTZH
