Bhamo, 8 March

Sponsored by Bhamo District Social Welfare Department, a ceremony to mark the International Women’s Day which falls on 8 March was held the city hall in Bhamo, Kachin State this morning.

At the ceremony, U Htway Myint, Deputy Commission of Bhamo District GAD delivered an opening speech, and U Mran Tan Naung, in-charge of UNHCR read the message of International Women’s Day.

Next, Daw Myint Myint, head of District Women’s Affairs Committee presented gifts to children from nursery schools who presented entertainment.  Afterwards, Daw Si Si Dwe Bu from Grip Hands briefed the background history of the International Women’s Day, followed by the presentation of prizes to outstanding women by the deputy commissioner.

This was followed a general round of discussions, after which ethnic traditional dance was staged.—District IPRD)
