The Embassy of India in Yangon in collaboration with Bhagwan Mahaveer Viklang Sahayata Samiti (BMVSS), Jaipur, India and U Nu Daw Mya Yi Foundation is organizing a 23-day 3rd Jaipur Foot Artificial Limb Fitment Camp in Yangon from 19 March to 10 April, 2020.

 

During the Camp 250 limbs would be fitted. It is worth recalling that the 1st Camp was organized in Yangon in February-March, 2017 with 331 fitments, while the 2nd Camp was held during July-August, 2018 with 546 fitments.


In all the three camps including the present one the fitting of limbs would be over 1100 limbs in Myanmar.

 

On 21 March, 2020 the inaugural ceremony was held at the Pitakat Thonbon Nikae Monastery, South Dagon.

 

U Myint Thaung, Minister of Planning and Finance, Government of Yangon Region and Ambassador of India Mr Saurabh Kumar, inaugurated the Jaipur Football Artificial Limb Fitment Camp in Yangon.

 

A number of dignitaries, including Dr Zaw Than Htun, Director General, Department of Medical Research and Daw Than Than Nu, Chairman of U Nu Daw Mya Yi Foundation, participated at the inaugural ceremony at the Monastery.

 

During the inaugural ceremony, the dignitaries handed over custom-made Jaipur Foot to amputees.

 

They also visited the Jaipur Foot Camp and temporary workshop at the Monastery and met with the BMVSS technical team and persons with disability who had come to get the Jaipur Foot artificial limb.

 

A number of economic, infrastructure development, cultural, social and humanitarian projects are also being undertaken under the broader Indian development cooperation programme in Myanmar by the Government of India.

 

BMVSS was established in 1975 as a non-profit organization to serve persons with disability and give them mobility and dignity.

 

In all, under this humanitarian project of the India-Myanmar Development Cooperation Programme, about 250 persons of Myanmar with disability will be provided with artificial limbs till the last day of Camp completely free of cost.—GNLM
