The Japan Coast Guard says a fisheries agency ship has collided with a North Korean fishing vessel in the Sea of Japan.

The coast guard says it was notified on Monday at around 9:10 a.m., Japan time, that the fisheries agency ship and a large North Korean boat had collided about 350 kilometers northwest of the Noto Peninsula in Ishikawa Prefecture.

Coast guard officials say the North Korean vessel was reportedly waterlogged and about 20 crew members were thrown into the water. The coast guard says it has sent a patrol boat to the site to investigate.
