A project to erect a 66kV power line to supply round-the-clock electricity to Mawlaik Township, Sagaing Region is 81 percent complete, according to U Myo Min Aung, the Township Electrical Engineer. The Kalewa-Mawlaik power line is being built in Myoma Ward 2, Aung Thayar, he said.

Setting up the 33.4 miles long power line involves erecting 263 concrete pillars, 19 steel poles, and 97 tower pillars, he said.

The project is being implemented by the Hinthani Company. Work on the power line started in January last year and is now 81 per cent complete, said U Myo Min Aung.

The construction is being closely monitored to make sure it meets the deadline, he added.

Currently, a 800kVA generator is supplying electricity to 827 households in Mawlaik Town for four hours from 6 pm to 10 pm. With an eye on safety,

the authorities are building a high standard power line, extending the existing line, and replacing old wires in homes, schools, and offices, in cooperation

with the public, said an official from the Township Electrical Engineering office.

Upon completion, the power line will supply 24-hour electricity to wards in Mawlaik. It would support the development of the social, economic, educational, and health sectors in the town.— Mawlaik Tharlay
