Loikaw, 2 May
The Kandayawady RC Bridge crossing the Belu Creek in Loikaw City, Kayah State is being expanded into a four-lane concrete bridge and expansion work began in March this year.
The Kandayawady Bridge is 306 ft. long and 22 ft. wide and has a 3 ft. long pedestrian walkway on each side. The bridge located on the Toungoo-Leiktho-Yado-Hopong Union Road was opened to traffic in 1985. The bridge needs to be expanded because the entry and exit of vehicles to Kayah State is increasing as peace and stability have been restored in the region along with smoother road transportation.
The proposal to expand the original bridge was submitted to the local government that has given a green light to build a 48 ft. wide bridge by using the Union Budget in the financial year 2018-2019, according to a source from the Department of Road under the Ministry of Construction.—Kyee Myint Naing
