A ceremony for donating dried alms to monks was held at the Kayakam Metta Foundation Monastery in Dagon Myothit (South) Township, Yangon Region, on 8 July.
The ceremony was held with the aim of supporting the monks — who are instrumental in the flourishing of the religion — in spreading the faith, ensuring its longevity, and carrying out religious activities with peace of mind.
“The Kayakam Metta Foundation aims to ensure that monks, who are instrumental in the flourishing of the religion, can live peacefully within the religious community without difficulties. This ceremony also serves to find foster fathers and mothers to support the monks in their religious activities. It is a biannual festival where donors — referred to as the monks’ foster fathers and mothers — gather to discuss and provide for the needs of religious activities. On 20 July, we will hold a donation ceremony for monks studying in the monasteries, as well as a dried meal offering ceremony,” said Sayadaw Ashin Kusala of the Kayakam Metta Foundation.
The Kayakam Metta Foundation has been carrying out activities to help and care for monks, and has so far connected more than 300 monks with their donors.
In addition, the Kayakam Metta Foundation is conducting ten-day special courses to enhance the monks’ preaching skills, along with cultural and ethical training and free healthcare. — ASH/TH
