Myawady, 2 June
The Chief Minister of Kayin State Daw Nang Khin Htwe Myint participated in a mass tree planting activity to hail the World Environment Day 2019 in Myawady, a border town in Kayin State on Saturday.

The event was organized by the Forest Department under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation. Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister said that, “We must make our environment green and peaceful by planting trees and it is a duty for the government and all citizens”. She also urged those present to take part in the tree planting activity to ensure the environment clean, green and peaceful.

Next, the chief minister and Chairman of the Karen National Union Saw Mutu Sae Phoe distributed saplings to departmental officials, representatives from ethnic armed organizations and local people. A total of 3,960 seedlings such as guava, tamarind and teak were grown during the activity.—Saw Myo Min Thein (IPRD)
