Kyaukse Township in Mandalay Region cultivated 45,565 acres of summer sesame in the 2025–2026 financial year to help meet local edible oil demand. As of now, 44,622 acres have been harvested, producing a total of 707,259 baskets, according to the Township Department of Agriculture.
The summer sesame crop was grown using the regionally suitable Sinyadana-4 and Sinyadana-12 varieties. Of the total cultivated area, 8,600 acres were planted using the large-frame planting method, 33,375 acres using the row-planting method and 3,590 acres using the broadcasting method, covering all 45,565 acres.
The average yield was 16.50 baskets per acre under the large-frame planting method, 15.53 baskets per acre under the row-planting method and 14.30 baskets per acre under the broadcasting method.— Thet Maung (IPRD)
