A ceremony to introduce the second Five-year national level framework for international migrant workers management was held in Yangon yesterday.

 

Union Minister for Labour, Immigration and Population U Thein Swe briefed about implementation of the framework which is being implemented in cooperation with the International Organization for Migration-IOM.

 

The event is held to inform the public of the Framework.

 

According to IOM, global Migration Indicator 2018, out of the world’s 7.6 billion population, about 258 million are on migration and 7.8 % of 150.3 million are from South East Asia.

 

Myanmar has laid out policies regarding migrant workers. According to the law relating to oversea employment.

 

Myanmar workers are being sent to Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Japan, Korea, middle eastern countries and other countries through 277 oversea employment agency, including one government run agency.

 

He added that as there are a lot of challenges of migrant workers, international organizations, related ministries and NGOs are steering this 5 year framework and that he hopes to give long term support to the workers to get respectable job in South East Asia. He also spoke of grand strategy regarding enhancement of immigrant worker act, recruitment of save and reliable workers, training before departure, legal service, service available for oversea workers, considering immigrant workers in National Economic Development, transferring money to families, creating more oversea job opportunity, data concerning immigration, improvement of management and collaboration between countries .

 

Union Minister of Labour, Immigration and Population U Thein Swe, government officials, representatives from international organizations, Chief of Mission Mr. Akio Nakayama from IOM and official from private organization attended the ceremony.
