Union Minister for Labour, Immigration and Population U Thein Swe attended the National Skill Standards Authority (NSSA) certificate awarding event held at Ministry of Construction Central Training School (Thuwanna) Yangon yesterday morning.


At the event, Union Minister U Thein Swe said NSSA had set 4 national levels of work competencies and was evaluating and testing level 1 and 2 competencies. Workers who had achieved national level competency certificates were to place emphasis toward increasing the production of products at the standards and norms appropriate to their competency level. Employers also need to reward employees according to their competencies. There must be no gap between workers market requirement and provision of skilled workers, fulfilling the requirements of skilled workers, conducting training courses, up-skill and re-skill exercises and trainings.


Next, region minister for Immigration and Human Resources Daw Moe Moe Su Kyi delivered a speech.


Afterwards, the Union Minister and officials presented 1,044 skilled workers from 14 occupational areas tested and evaluated by NSSA from October 2018 to April 2019 with certificates and presented certificate of recognition for 18 evaluators/examiners from 6 evaluating/examining centres. A worker representative and an employer representative then spoke words of thank.


NSSA had been evaluating and testing occupational area wise work competencies starting from 2014 and from 2014 to 2019 August, it had evaluated and tested national competency level 1 and 2 for 23 types of occupations and had presented certificates to a total of 13,146 workers of which 9,387 were men and 3,759 were women. — MNA (Translated by Zaw Min)
