Madaya, 18 November
In an attempt to prevent riverbank erosion, a group of people participated in an activity to plant saplings along the Ayeyawady River near Nantawkyun Village, Madaya Township in Mandalay Region this morning.

First, the Pyithu Hluttaw Representative U Zaw Min Lwin, and officials from the Department of Forest handed over saplings to village officisls. Some villages along the Ayeyawady River in Madaya Township suffered from collapse and erosion of riverbank in the previous years. Departmental staff, members of social organizations, teachers, students, employees from the Forest Department and villagers grew 324 saplings and grass that can prevent from riverbank erosion.
Tree-planting events are usually held across the country in July but villages along the Ayeyawady River organize the tree-growing ceremonies during the period from November to February.—Soe Kyaw Thu Htwe (Madaya)
