The Myanmar Agricultural Development Bank’s branch in Myeik, Taninthayi Region is disbursing monsoon agricultural loans to farmers at a rate of Ks. 150,000 for per acre with a view to helping solve their difficulties.
So far, the MADB have already dispensed more than Ks. 10 billion for 7,111 acres of monsoon paddy field, according to the assistant director of the MADB’s branch. A total of 42,693 acres of monsoon paddy have been grown in Myeik Township last year and per acre yield was 73.5 basket of paddy. Such acre of monsoon paddy will be cultivated this year and some farmers harrowed their farmlands to start cultivation season in a timely manner, said the Department of Agriculture.
Some paddy fields in Myeik Township have been submerged by floodwaters last year but the natural disaster has not affected the paddy yield as substitute paddy seedlings have been planted in time. Arrangements are being made to prevent similar incident from taking place, according to the Department of Agriculture.—Zaw Myo Naing (IPRD)
