THE Mandalay Region Gov­ernment has announced that a remembrance ceremony will be held to mark the one-year anniversary of the devastating earthquake that struck on 28 March 2025. This powerful 7.7 magnitude quake resulted in significant loss of life and ex­tensive damage to property across the region.

 

The anniversary event, scheduled for the morning of 28 March 2026, will focus on spiritual and merit-sharing ac­tivities. These include offering alms to members of the Sang­ha and performing the cere­monies to share merits with those who lost their lives in the disaster. In the afternoon, the government will hold a special recognition ceremony to hon­our various social organiza­tions and groups that worked courageously on the frontlines during the emergency.

 

Regarding reconstruction efforts, the Union Government continues to provide essential support for the rebuilding of buildings and infrastructure damaged by the quake. Si­multaneously, the Mandalay Region Government is collab­orating closely with ward and village administrative bodies to ensure that recovery assis­tance and relief reach the af­fected communities effectively. — ASH/KNN
