A ceremony to commemorate International Day of Older Persons was held at the city hall of Mandalay city in central Myanmar this morning.
The ceremony, organized by Mandalay Region Government, was attended by Mandalay Region Chief Minister Dr. Zaw Myint Maung, the region ministers, the region Hluttaw patron U Aung Kyaw Oo, deputy patron Dr. Khin Maung Htay, members of the region Hluttaw, departmental personnel at the region level, district and township administrators, head of the region social affairs department and staff, the patron and members of Women Committee, members of Maternal and Child Care Association and non-governmental associations and older persons aged 95 and above in Mandalay district.
At the ceremony, Mandalay Region Chief Minister made a speech, paying respect to older persons. Then, the region chief minister and wife, the region Hluttaw patron and the region ministers handed over cash and offertories donated by well-wishers and departmental personnel to a total of 52 older persons present at the ceremony.
The region chief minister and party also handed over cash for 235 older persons aged 95 and above who were not able to attend the ceremony to the township administrators in Mandalay district.
