The highway bus lines have all been suspended starting from April to prevent the spreading of coronavirus disease. Now, the Mandalay regional government has allowed them all to resume their transportation service, operating in the towns in Mandalay region starting from 16 May, according to the regional bus line supervisory committee (highway).

The bus lines being operated within a diameter of 100 miles from Mandalay City are resuming their transportation service starting from 16 May. And, the authorities provide the disinfectants to the bus lines from the reopened three bus terminals.

“The regional bus lines start their operation on 16 May. More than 100 bus lines operating in an area of 100 miles in diameter from Mandalay City are now running in the towns of Mandalay region. There are five bus terminals. Among them, all buses within under 100-mile area are operating from three bus terminals — Thiri Mandala, Maha Aung Myay and Chan Mya Shwe Pyi. The buses will allow the passengers to get on board the buses in conformity with the guidelines of the Ministry of Health and Sports,” said an official from the regional bus line supervisory committee (highway).

To be able to operate the bus lines systematically, the authorities are distributing the announcement letter of rules and regulations to the bus lines to follow the coronavirus prevention activities.

Among the bus line operated in Mandalay region, only 50 per cent of bus line operating Bagan, Nyaung U, Pyawbwe, Yemethin, Pyin Oo Lwin, Mogok and Tagaung towns are allowed to resume its operation and the remaining bus lines, operated in other towns, are not granted to resume recently.—Aye Cho
