The Mara literature workshop organized by Mara Evangelical Church (MEC) Headquarters was conducted in the town of Lailenpi, Matupi Township, Chin State yesterday.
Rev. Dr. Laiu Fachhai, Senior Executive Secretary of MEC from India and C.Laiki are giving lectures on Mara literature at the workshop.
Over 100 trainees from Lailenpi and other villages in Mara land are attending the two-day workshop. The Mara people (formerly known as Lakher) are an ethnic group whose territory is situated on both sides of the border between India and Myanmar.
In Myanmar, Mara people reside in Thantlang, Matupi and Paletwa in Chin State. The Mara alphabet which has 25 letters depending on Roman Scripts was introduced in 1908 by Rev. R.A Lorain, the first missionary of Mara Land from England.—Township IPRD
