The Sports and Physical Education Department organized a marathon race to mark the Olympic Day Run 2019 in Bago this morning under the guidance of the regional government.
At first, Director of the Sports and Physical Education Department U Soe Naing explained the purpose of event and disciplines to be followed by the participants. The marathon race for men commenced in front of the University of Bago and the women’s contest began from a starting point near a plywood factory. More than 300 participants from some townships in eastern Bago Region took part in the competition.
Next, the regional parliament speaker, regional advocate-general and concerned officials presented prizes and cash to award winning participants in both contests. The event was held with the aim of producing outstanding athletes in the region and turning out new generation sportspersons.—Hein Htet (Bago)
