The mass walking event to mark the 150th anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi’s birthday kicked off in front of the Mahatma Gandhi Building in Bo Aung Kyaw Street yesterday morning (around 6am).
Yangon Region Chief Minister U Phyo Min Thein, Indian Ambassador Mr Saurabh Kumar and Yangon Mayor U Maung Maung Soe first delivered speeches.
Afterwards, the Yangon Region Chief Minister, the Indian Ambassador and wife, the Yangon Mayor, Chairman of the Committee for 150th anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi’s birthday celebration and officials unveiled the signboard of ‘The Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Trust’ by pressing the button.
The Yangon Region Chief Minister, the Indian Ambassador and the Yangon Mayor then cut ribbons to start the mass walking.
Yangon Region Chief Minister, the Indian Ambassador and the Yangon Mayor accompanied by participants in the event started the walking from Bo Aung Kyaw Street through Strand Road, Sule Road and Bogyoke Aung San Road, and finished at the start point.
