Iranian media outlets say a massive explosion has taken place in an area near the capital Tehran. The area hosts a military facility, but the state television said the blast hit an industrial gas tank.

Early on Friday, the state television quoted a defense ministry spokesperson as saying that the blast occurred in a public area of Parchin.

Video footage and pictures apparently of the explosion were posted on social media, showing a bright, orange light illuminating the sky over a city.

The area hosts a military facility which the International Atomic Energy Agency has suspected of being involved in the development of nuclear weapons. Iran denies this.

The spokesperson said there was no link between the blast and the military facility.

The state television said no one was killed in the blast and the fire was put out.
