A massive fire has swept through a slum in Bangladesh's capital, Dhaka, leaving thousands of people homeless.
The fire broke out on Friday in the neighborhood in the western part of the city.
Government officials say at least 1,200 shanty houses were destroyed. Many were built with plastics and other waste materials, which helped the flames spread rapidly.
Local media say that no one was killed, as most residents were away to celebrate a Muslim holiday. Four people were injured.
A woman who lost her home said everything was reduced to ashes, with no help available.
The residents are taking shelter in nearby schools. The government plans to provide them with food and money so they can rebuild their lives.
In February, a fire in a historic district of Dhaka killed about 70 people.
