THE local growers from Kyaukton village, Minbu (Sagu) township, Magway region are growing Maymyo flowers. According to the local growers, the flowers are being sold well in the market, and they yield abundantly.

 

Flowers are not food items. However, they are essential to the Myanmar people. Every household offers flowers to Lord Buddha either at pagodas or to Buddha images seated on altars at their homes. Flowers are also used at wedding receptions, donation ceremonies, hotels, motels and other festivals as decorations.

 

There are many Maymyo flower species, and the flowers are colourful. The cultivation of the Maymyo flower takes about five months. The cultivation of the Maymyo flower costs K300,000 per acre, including ploughing and sowing the seeds. The flowery plants does not need to be watered, but it is required in order to put the irrigation water. The irrigation water is needed once every five or seven days, depending upon the ground’s soil moisture.

 

The pesticides should be sprayed when there are insects. The fertilizer is also used only when it is necessary. The flowers yield abundantly at the same time, and they at K80 per flower and K200 per handful of flowers. Maymyo flowers are sold well in harvest times.
