The first Media and Information Literacy Course for the staff members of Myanmar Radio and Television under the Ministry of Information was launched at the Auditorium of MRTV in Tatkon in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday morning.
Deputy Minister for Information U Aung Hla Tun made an opening remark on the course, saying the rising number of social media users who search information and entertainments on mobile phones, and that media and information literacy has become crucial for identifying false news, rumours, hate speech and fake news in deceiving others.
He also said the course was intended to help the civil service staff understand accountability and responsibility in using internets.
The experts from UNESCO and the Ministry of Information give lectures on knowledge about media and information literacy during the two-day course that is attended by 160 staff, including senior officers, of the MRTV.—MNA
