AS air pollution may continue rising due to temperature drops in the upper atmosphere from late February to early March, meteorologist U Win Naing has advised that it is best to wear a mask when going out.

He posted on his social media page, which provides real-time weather conditions, on 29 January. He also warned that people with underlying respiratory conditions may experience shortness of breath or difficulty in breathing in the early mornings.

Daytime temperatures may rise with less clouds and nights may get colder on 31 January and early February, he added.

Other predictions include untimely scattered rain in Kachin State including Myitkyina, PutaO, Phakant, Moegaung, Machanbaw, Chipwe, Tanai, Khaunglanphu, Kanpaiti and northern Shan State — Kutkai, Lashio and Muse — from 27 to 30 January, with 30 to 90 per cent possibility for 5 millimetres (0.2 inch) within 24 hours and more than 30 millimetres (1.2 inches) on 30 January, while rains are not likely in the rest regions and states, he said. — MT/ZN
