THE Dry Zone Greening Department in Minbu District, Magway Region, has planted more than 150,000 trees across the district during the 2026 monsoon season as part of efforts to support rural development, improve environmental sustainability, mitigate the impacts of climate change and promote ecological balance.
Head of District Dry Zone Greening Department U Tin Maung Htwe said the department planted a total of 159,840 trees during the 2026-2027 financial year in Minbu (Sagu), Pwintbyu, Salin and Ngape townships. The programme included 220 acres of forest plantations, 8,000 trees under special greening projects, 30 acres of village-owned plantations under the “two-acre per village” scheme and 1,000 trees planted along farm boundaries.
Departmental staff members, in cooperation with residents, have planted various shade and timber species, including eucalyptus, mezali, gum-kino, cherry, river tamarind, neem, ironwood, teak, jujube and mango trees in community forests, hill plantations and other greening sites.
The department also plans to plant an additional 1,000 shade trees in Minbu (Sagu) Township as part of the Magway Region-level 2026 monsoon tree-planting ceremony under the public greening campaign. — Maung Maung (Minbu) /KZL
