Union Minister for Agricul­ture, Livestock and Irrigation U Min Naung yesterday led a delegation virtually to join the 45th ASEAN Ministers on Agriculture and Forestry Meet­ing (45th AMAF) and related meetings.

 

During the meeting, the Union minister expressed sat­isfaction over the report of the Malaysian Patron of Senior Of­ficials meeting, efforts of work­ing groups and ASEAN senior officials for achievements in implementing measures for food, agriculture and forest, relevant cooperation work of dialogue partners, internation­al organizations and relevant institutions, CGIAR for advanc­ing sustainable development in the food, agriculture and forest­ry sectors of ASEAN countries.

 

He then pledged that My­anmar would work together with ASEAN countries.

 

The meeting also agreed on the outcomes of the ASEAN Summit and ASEAN Econom­ic Ministers Meeting and the progress report on the imple­mentation of the ASEAN Food, Agriculture, and Forestry Co­operation Policy Framework,

 

The meeting recognized the importance of sustainable agriculture, food security, and sustainable forest manage­ment, emphasized the need for close cooperation to ad­dress regional challenges and opportunities and committed to promoting cooperation in the fields of food, agriculture, and forestry.

 

Moreover, it noted the pro­gress in 2022-2023 food, agri­culture and forest sectors, and agreed on three key delivera­bles for 2024 and two Priority Economic Deliverables (PED) of Lao PDR’s 2024 ASEAN Chairmanship. The 2024 PED consists of the development of an Action Plan for the Im­plementation of the ASEAN Guidelines on Sustainable Agriculture and the Strategy or Guideline for Crop Burning Reduction to Support the Im­plementation of the ASEAN Carbon Neutrality Strategy.

 

The meeting was conclud­ed after issuing the joint state­ment. — MNA/KTZH
