Union Minister for Border Affairs Lt-Gen Tun Tun Naung received a delegation led by As­sistant High Commissioner for Operations Mr Raouf Mazou of UNHCR at the meeting hall of the ministry yesterday.

 

During the meeting, the Union minister and the UNHCR delegation cordially discussed a variety of matters, including measures taken for stability and peace of the border areas, socioeconomic development of the ethnic people living in the border areas and human resources development, ac­ceptance and resettlement of displaced persons under the Myanmar-Bangladesh bilater­al agreement and cooperation in providing humanitarian as­sistance.

 

Similarly, Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr Soe Win re­ceived the UNHCR delegation at the meeting hall of the min­istry yesterday.

 

At the meeting, they ex­changed views on the delega­tion’s tour in Maungtaw and Sittway townships in Rakhine State and Taunggyi township in Shan State, discussed the status of signing MOU between the ministry and UNHCR, matters on entry visas and local travel permit for the foreign staff of UNHCR, provision of humani­tarian assistance and future co­operation plans. — MNA/MKKS
