UNION Minister for Construction U Myo Thant, accompanied by Yangon Region Chief Minister U Soe Thein, yesterday inspected the construction of the Myanmar-Korea Friendship (Dala) Bridge, connecting Yangon and Dala.

Initially, they examined the completion status of two approach bridges along Strand Road on the Yangon side and the progress of the approach bridge along Phonegyi Road. They assessed the requirements and provided guidance for ongoing works.

Director General U Kyaw Kaung Cho of the Bridges Department supplemented the discussion with additional clarifications. Coordination was made to address the needs and guide the work accordingly.

The Union minister travelled by boat to inspect the main bridge’s central pylon (Pylon-1) on the Dala side, reviewing the detailed construction progress and instructed all involved to complete the project within the scheduled timeframe.

The Myanmar-Korea Friendship (Dala) Bridge features a modern cable-stayed design and is set to become Myanmar’s highest vertical clearance bridge. To minimize noise disturbances, sound barriers are being installed along the Yangon approach. Additional features include a maintenance facility for the bridge’s longevity, a toll plaza for revenue collection, and a weight bridge to monitor heavy vehicles. — MNA/KZL
