UNION Minister for Ed­ucation Dr Chaw Chaw Sein received Mr Yasuma­sa Kimura, Resident Rep­resentative of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Myanmar, at the Ministry of Education in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday.

 

The two sides held open and cordial discus­sions on cooperation in further developing the ba­sic education sector and implementing future pri­ority programmes. They also discussed support for early childhood care and development training, English language teach­ing programmes, and school management train­ing aimed at enhancing the capacities of teachers and headteachers.

 

The discussions fur­ther covered comparative studies of education sys­tems in regional countries through the Southeast Asia Primary Learning Metrics (SEA-PLM) pro­gramme, continued col­laboration on research re­lating to literacy rates and gender disparities, educa­tional opportunities and qualification recognition for out-of-school children, and measures to ensure that schools provide safe and secure environments for children.

 

Deputy Minister U Nay Myo Hlaing, direc­tors-general and other officials also attended the meeting. — MNA/MKKS
