Union Minister for Electricity and Energy U Win Khaing along with the officials from the district Electrical Offices, made an inspection tour in Shar Taw Village electrified by National Electrification Plan (NEP) in Tatkon Township in Nay Pyi Taw.
After Deputy Minister U Khin Maung Win and officials explained the electricity consumption and distribution in the Union Territory and in Dekkhina District, the Union Minister said.
The Union Minister said efforts are being made to achieve 100% nationwide electricity supply by 2030 and over 75% electricity supply by 2025-2026 with decentralization system, Mini Grid, Renewable Energy, Solar, Small Hydropower projects and diesel engine generator to provide electricity by planning to build self-supporting projects in rural areas far from the electricity system and at present, 56% of the whole country can access to electricity.
The Government has provided electricity to a total of 82 towns and 10,294 villages with expanded power lines and substations within 4 years. In 2020-2021FY, the Government is implementing to build power lines with the loan from World Bank, ADB, JICA and KfW and grants from partner countries. The first phase of the National Electrification Plan (NEP) implemented with the loan from World Bank aims to provide electricity to 5,080 villages across the countries and as of 21 November 2020, construction work has been completed in 4,394 villages and 3,971 of them have been lit.
When all the first phase of NEP projects is completed, 626,757 households will have access to electricity, and the electrification rate for households will increase by 5.76%. The implementation of the second phase of the NEP will be completed in 4700 villages in 2021 September which will make the electrification rate increase by 4.96%.
The Union Minister said the efforts of the Ministry are essential for the social and economic well-being of the people. As the basic needs of the people are roads, communications and electricity, it is important to pay special attention to the goals given to the Ministry.
