THE Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs of Myanmar, together with the Foreign Ministers of Malaysia and Thailand, met the Members of the Myanmar Disaster Management Committee and the Executive Director of the ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance on Disaster Management (AHA Centre) at the Jasmine Hotel, Nay Pyi Taw, yesterday.
The Executive Director of the AHA Centre, the Director-General of the Ministry of Health, and the Director-General of the Department of Disaster Management briefed the Foreign Ministers on the needs and current status of the relief phase, search and rescue operations up to the ninth day of the earthquake, healthcare, water, electricity and other basic infrastructural needs at recovery and rehabilitation phase following ongoing relief efforts.
Based on the discussions, the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Myanmar, Malaysia and Thailand coordinated procuring medicines and medical equipment, mobile clinics and mobile operation theatres, basic infrastructure including water and electricity, temporary shelters and mosquito nets as priority needs. The ministers also agreed to continue cooperation for a smooth transition to the rehabilitation and recovery phase. — MNA
