THE Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs of Myanmar, together with the Foreign Ministers of Malaysia and Thailand, met the Members of the Myanmar Dis­aster Management Committee and the Executive Director of the ASEAN Coordinating Cen­tre for Humanitarian Assistance on Disaster Management (AHA Centre) at the Jasmine Hotel, Nay Pyi Taw, yesterday.

 

The Executive Director of the AHA Centre, the Direc­tor-General of the Ministry of Health, and the Director-Gen­eral of the Department of Dis­aster Management briefed the Foreign Ministers on the needs and current status of the relief phase, search and rescue oper­ations up to the ninth day of the earthquake, healthcare, water, electricity and other basic infra­structural needs at recovery and rehabilitation phase following ongoing relief efforts.

 

Based on the discussions, the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Myanmar, Malaysia and Thai­land coordinated procuring med­icines and medical equipment, mobile clinics and mobile oper­ation theatres, basic infrastruc­ture including water and elec­tricity, temporary shelters and mosquito nets as priority needs. The ministers also agreed to con­tinue cooperation for a smooth transition to the rehabilitation and recovery phase. — MNA
