THE Ministry of Health has been providing healthcare for the people in areas affected by Cyclone Mocha since 15 May. Emergency response teams and medical teams are working in real-time in rural and urban areas.
In addition to the fieldwork, the mobile medical teams are treating out-patients in public hospitals, treating in-patients, and opening temporary operating rooms to treat patients who need surgery.
Following the instructions of the head of state, health sector infrastructure reconstruction works are being carried out with special efforts before the rainy season starts.
Yathedaung Township, Rakhine State
To prevent the outbreak of infectious diseases, the emergency medical teams provided clean water, health awareness, and medical treatment in the urban neighbourhoods of Yathedaung Township on 21 May.
The medical team also opened a clinic under the roof of the Kutoung station hospital and provided health care to 123 people yesterday.
Similarly, the roof of a fourunit staff housing which was damaged due to the storm in Zeytipyin Station Hospital in rathedaung Township was repaired yesterday.
Pauktaw Township, Rakhine State
Emergency medical teams led by Pauktaw Township Public Health Department visited Thawunchaung Village in Pauk taw Township, which has about 630 households and verified the cleanliness of water sources on 21 May.
They distributed 3,000 water purification tablets to 300 households and conducted health education activities for 67 villagers in a building in the centre of the village.
Next, they went to Toungphoo Village in Pauktaw Township, which has about 315 houses, checked the cleanliness of water sources, distributed 1,000 water purification tablets to 100 houses, and conducted health awareness for 65 villagers in the village library.
Kyauktaw Township, Rakhine State
Emergency medical teams conducted water purification work and distributed 700 water purifier tablets in Thayettapin, Saphothar, and Atwin Villages in Kyauktaw Township and conducted health awareness on 20 May.
Minbya Township, Rakhine State
Similarly, emergency medical teams conducted water purification work in Minbya Township on 21 May, chlorinated water storage tanks that used drinking water from large earthern lakes, and carried out disease prevention and health knowledge activities in Okkapyan Ward, where dengue fever cases have been reported.
Maungtaw Township, Rakhine State
Likewise, the emergency medical teams conducted water purification work and health knowledge activities in Maungtaw Township on 21 May.
The teams went to Inndin Village which has about 88 houses and Aungthukha Village which has about 225 houses in Maungtaw Township and carried out, food sanitation and health awareness activities.
Medical services were provided to 642 people in Aungthukha Village, 634 people in Myoyu Village, 391 people in Inndin Village, 573 people in Peyon Village, and 805 people in Aungthukha Village totalling 3,045.
Ponnagyun Township, Rakhine State
Emergency medical teams and maternal and child health teams went to Yoengu Village in Ponnagyun Township yesterday to provide medical treatment and health awareness, as well as distribute water purification tablets and educate people on the use of water pills.
Similarly, the roofs of a tworoom medical storage building and a two-unit staff housing at Ponnagyun Township Hospital, which were damaged by Mocha, were repaired on 21 May. — MNA/KZL
