A meeting with newspaper and journal publishers was held yesterday at the meeting hall of the Film Promotion Division, under the Department of Information and Public Relations, in Bahan Township, Yangon, to discuss the development of the news media sector. Union Minister for Information U Maung Maung Ohn attended and delivered opening remarks.
The Union minister first addressed the current situation in the country and the need for news media to operate following these circumstances. He also highlighted the importance of reporting in a way that does not harm the nation’s interests or the well-being of the people, and stressed the dangers of fake and false news, as well as the need to disseminate accurate and truthful information.
Afterwards, Myanmar Press Council Second Vice- Chair U Khin Maung Kyaw Din, along with the attending newspaper and journal publishers and responsible personnel, held discussions on the development of the news media sector. The Union minister then provided guidance and coordinated on the points raised during the discussions. — MNA/KZL
