A meeting with newspaper and journal publishers was held yesterday at the meeting hall of the Film Promotion Division, under the Department of Infor­mation and Public Relations, in Bahan Township, Yangon, to discuss the development of the news media sector. Union Min­ister for Information U Maung Maung Ohn attended and deliv­ered opening remarks.

 

The Union minister first addressed the current situation in the country and the need for news media to operate follow­ing these circumstances. He also highlighted the importance of reporting in a way that does not harm the nation’s interests or the well-being of the people, and stressed the dangers of fake and false news, as well as the need to disseminate accu­rate and truthful information.

 

Afterwards, Myanmar Press Council Second Vice- Chair U Khin Maung Kyaw Din, along with the attending newspaper and journal pub­lishers and responsible per­sonnel, held discussions on the development of the news media sector. The Union min­ister then provided guidance and coordinated on the points raised during the discussions. — MNA/KZL
