THE Department of Meteorology and Hydrology recently issued a weather warning that since April and May are summer months, daytime temperatures will gradually rise, potentially leading to cloud formation. As these clouds move, strong winds may occur, accompanied by sudden downpours, thunderstorms, lightning strikes, hails, and scattered heavy rainfall.
According to forecasts on 3 April, it is expected the meeting of warm winds from the Bay of Bengal and the Andaman Sea with cool winds moving down from the high-pressure area over China. Hence, scattered to widespread rain is likely in Taninthayi Region, Kayin and Mon states from tonight until 5 April 5 2025, isolated to scattered rain is expected in various regions and states from 6 to 11 April 2025, and Taninthayi Region, Kachin, Kayin and Mon states may experience widespread rain during this period.
As such, if scattered or widespread rains occur, people may experience untimely rains, so it is necessary to keep humans, cattle and harvested crops under shelter. Therefore, the department advised the public to pay special attention to the untimely rainfall accompanied with Strong wind, thunder, lightning and hails that occur during the summer and to take precautions in advance for domestic air travel and maritime journeys.
Moreover, if there is intermittent rainfall between areas, the public needs to be aware of health precautions to cope with temperature imbalances caused by climate change. Due to unexpected rainfall, sudden heatwaves, diarrhoea, and dengue fever may occur, so preventive measures should be taken in advance. So, people need to follow tips on health activities for daily life as part of preparations to prevent the potential of natural disasters.
