Agriculture remains the main livelihood in Monywa District, Sagaing Region. This year, the district plans to grow 805,086 acres of rain-fed crops using dams, canals, and water pumping systems.

In Monywa, Chaung-U, Butalin, and Ayadaw Townships, the planting plan includes 751,166 acres of paddy, 223,950 acres of pulses and beans, 184,042 acres of oilseeds, 45,430 acres of cotton, 1,452 acres of kitchen crops, and 275,046 acres of other crops.

District and township-level departments will coordinate efforts to support farmers with soil testing, seeds, pesticides, and farming technologies. So far, 14,892 acres of oilseeds, 2,933 acres of cotton, and 120,033 acres of other crops have been planted. Last year, a total of 778,120 acres were cultivated.— District (IPRD)
