Monywa, 7 May
Monywa Township in Sagaing Region has successfully cultivated 421 acres of summer sesame, an important oilseed crop. To help farmers meet the full planting target, the Township Agriculture Department is conducting field awareness campaigns and providing on-the-ground support.
In response to lower-than-expected sesame yields in recent seasons, officials from the Township Agriculture Department are working closely with local farmers. They are offering assistance to address key challenges in sesame production, including access to agricultural technology, financing, quality seeds, irrigation, soil management, and pest control.
A total of 480 acres of sesame cultivation has been planned using dam water during the 2024–2025 fiscal year. Planting activities began in the second week of February this year.
With 421 acres already planted, the department continues to educate farmers in the field to help reach the cultivation target.—District IPRD
