The United Nations says a group armed with guns and machetes attacked a village in central Mali near the border with Burkina Faso on Saturday.

It says at least 134 people, including women and children, were killed and 55 were wounded.

The two ethnic groups have clashed over access to land and water.

Six years ago, the French military drove out Islamic extremists from urban centers. But they later regrouped and began to carry out attacks.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres condemned Saturday's attack and urged the Malian government to bring the perpetrators to justice. He also pledged more assistance for Mali.
