AT Mount Popa, magnolia champaca plants has begun fewer, that is why more trees have been planned to grow this monsoon, said Ko Yenathar Dinga from Yenathar Dinga Brothers planting group.
At present, there is no barely magnolia champaca planting project, besides existing trees have been under depletion threat.
“We have a planting project for magnolia champaca on Popa Hill this year. Mount Popa is the land of magnolia champaca plants but there is no project for this tree on the mountain and no increase in quantity, even existing ones have died gradually and there is a threat of depletion,” he said.
Under the threat of depletion, the group has planned to start the project of planting about 300 magnolia champaca trees about 7ft tall this monsoon around the track to the mountain.
“We will go to plant 300 magnolia champaca trees about 7-8ft tall around the track to the Mount Popa where our group plant every year. We don’t know when it will rain so we can start this project after it rains enough. We choose this evergreen tree to plant because Mount Popa is the land of magnolia champaca,” he added.
In last year, a trial project of seeding royal poinciana trees and jacaranda mimosifolia trees was implemented at the Mount Popa where big trees rarely grow due to the soil of the area and achieved. — Htet Oo Maung/ZS
