Most accommodations in Yangon Region resume operations

New tourism destinations are added in Yangon Re­gion as local and foreign travellers have been visiting des­tinations in the region throughout the year, and almost 100 per cent of hotels, motels, and guesthous­es are back in operation, accord­ing to U Nanda Aung, Director of the Directorate of Hotels and Tourism (Yangon Region).

 

Between January and Feb­ruary 2024, more than 40,000 international tourists entered Myanmar mainly through flights, with the majority of them coming from Thailand.

 

“In Yangon Region, a total of 28 destinations have been designated, including pagodas, parks, and museums that are open to both domestic and for­eign tourists. For the upcoming travel season, we have arranged nine additional destinations for exploration,” U Nanda Aung said.

 

There are a total of 491 ho­tels, motels, and guesthouses in Yangon Region, offering ap­proximately 25,000 rooms, with 90 per cent of them currently in operation.

 

Among the new destinations in Yangon Region, in addition to 28 original destinations open to domestic and foreign tourists, are Yangon University, Honourable Lim Chin Tsong’s OBE (order of the British Empire) palace, Kyaik Pyatthadtanaw Kaungm­mu Pagoda, and Pilakat Hindu Temple. — ASH/TH
